If you’re visiting Mallorca for the first time, you’ve probably already heard about its dreamy beaches, charming villages, and delicious cuisine. But there’s a hidden underground gem you simply can’t miss: the Drach Caves, one of the island’s most breathtaking treasures.

The Cuevas del Drach (which translates to “Dragon Caves” in English) are a system of four large interconnected caves located on the eastern coast of Mallorca, in the town of Porto Cristo. They stretch over 1,200 meters in length and reach depths of up to 25 meters below the surface. Inside, you’ll find whimsical stalactites and stalagmites, rock formations that look like something out of a fairytale… and the spectacular Lake Martel, one of the largest underground lakes in the world.

The visit through the caves is not only visual—it’s also an auditory experience. When you reach the lake, you’ll enjoy a live classical music concert while illuminated boats glide across the water. The acoustics of the space make it a truly unique moment—an experience many describe as “otherworldly.” Being underground, in a cave surrounded by natural beauty, next to a lake, listening to classical music in a completely different way than we’re used to—it’s a sensory wonderHighly recommended!

Where is it and how do you get there?
The Drach Caves are located in the town of Porto Cristo, on the east side of the island. From Palma, the drive takes about an hour—which might seem far to some… but trust us, it’s absolutely worth it!

Those of us who live in Mallorca tend to get a bit spoiled when it comes to distances—a one-hour drive already feels like a journey (such is island life, after all). But whenever someone mentions the Drach Caves, even the most local of locals will admit it’s a magical place everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime—if not more. Its beauty is timeless and never loses its charm, and seeing it through the eyes of someone experiencing it for the first time reminds us just how lucky we are.

And yes, if you see a long line when you arrive, don’t worry. That’s totally normal. Lots of people enter per visit, but it’s all very organized and for good reason. Get ready for an hour-long sensory journey and an unforgettable experience you’ll carry with you for a long time.

You do not want to miss this 🙂
