Mallorca not only enchants visitors with its dreamlike landscapes, but also with an authentic cuisine that blends centuries of history, local produce, and a lot of heart.
Today, we present to you the most iconic dishes of Mallorcan gastronomy that you shouldn’t miss during your visit to the island.

Get ready to enjoy like never before!

1. Pa amb Oli

This simple yet delicious dish is a true Mallorcan classic. The secret lies in the quality of the rustic “moreno” bread and the island’s olive oil. It’s important to try it with this traditional bread — and if it’s toasted, even better!

Besides being tasty, it’s a lifesaver if you arrive home late or suddenly have five friends drop by unexpectedly.

2. Sobrasada

Sobrasada is probably Mallorca’s most famous product. This cured sausage, made with pork and paprika, has a creamy texture and an intense flavor. It’s ideal for both breakfast and tapas.

3. Tumbet

A vegetarian delight, Mallorcan style: tumbet is a dish made of layers of potatoes, aubergines, peppers, and fresh tomatoes, all fried in olive oil and assembled like a pasta-free lasagna. It can be served either as a side dish or as a main course.

An interesting fact: in many households, it is often served with meat (typically pork loin or chicken, though pork loin is more common). Because of this, opinions vary on whether it’s truly a vegetarian dish or not. We’ll leave it to you to choose your team! #WithMeat #WithoutMeat

4. Frito Mallorquín (Frit Mallorquí)

This hearty traditional dish mixes meat (usually lamb or pork), liver, potatoes, and vegetables, all sautéed with fennel and chili peppers.
There’s also a “frit de matances” version, traditionally prepared during the pig-slaughtering season.

5. Arròs Brut

This dish, with its curious name meaning “dirty rice,” is a soupy rice typically enjoyed on cold days. It’s cooked in a clay pot with game meat, seasonal mushrooms, vegetables, and spices such as cinnamon and cloves, giving it an unmistakable aroma.

We highly recommend it year-round, even though it’s more commonly eaten during the winter months.

6. Cocarrois and Empanadas

Cocarrois are crescent-shaped pastries stuffed with vegetables (usually Swiss chard, raisins, and pine nuts).
Panades or empanadas are round and traditionally filled with lamb, pork, or fish, often combined with peas.

7. Ensaïmada

The most internationally famous Mallorcan pastry. Light and fluffy, the ensaïmada can be enjoyed plain or filled with “cabello de ángel” (pumpkin jam), cream, chocolate, or whipped cream.
The best ones are artisanal and require hours of slow fermentation.

8. Gató de Almendra

A flourless sponge cake made only with ground almonds, eggs, and sugar.
The gató (gató d’ametlla) is often served with a scoop of almond ice cream, another essential Mallorcan specialty. A true delight for the sweet tooths in the family!

9. ‘VARIAT’

As the name suggests, a “variat” is a mixed platter of tapas, allowing you to sample different products on one plate.
We recommend that it at least includes: croquettes, Russian salad, battered calamari, frito mallorquín, and “pica-pica” (a spicy seafood stew). From there, it’s up to your personal taste or the recommendations of the bar where you’re enjoying it.

Mallorcan cuisine is a true reflection of its land: simple, sincere, and delicious.
Each dish celebrates local products, recipes passed down through generations, and the essence of the Mediterranean.

Have you already added these to your Mallorca to-do list?

Time to enjoy!
