If there’s one place that captures all the magic of the Serra de Tramuntana, it’s Sa Calobra. It is one of the most spectacular landscapes in Mallorca and, without a doubt, one of the most photographed. Getting here is already an adventure, and when you set foot on this hidden cove, surrounded by towering cliffs, you understand why it’s considered one of the island’s gems.
How to get there?
The road to Sa Calobra is almost as famous as the cove itself. To reach it, you have to drive along a unique road, full of curves and breathtaking views, designed by engineer Antonio Parietti in the 1930s. The most famous feature is the “tie knot,” a loop-shaped curve that seems impossible.
Another equally spectacular option is to arrive by boat from Port de Sóller, enjoying the Tramuntana coastline from the sea.
The cove itself is small and pebbly, but its surroundings are what make it magical. It’s enclosed by high cliffs, and the crystal-clear water is perfect for swimming or snorkeling. Access to the beach is through a tunnel carved into the rock—an experience in itself.
Nature at its purest
The true star of Sa Calobra is the Torrent de Pareis, an impressive gorge stretching over 3 km and flowing right into the beach. Its vertical walls, reaching up to 200 meters, create a spectacular setting—ideal for hikers and nature lovers.
Every summer, this spot also hosts an open-air concert, taking advantage of its natural acoustics—an experience truly unique in the world.
Practical tips
- Arrive early in summer: as a popular destination, it fills up quickly.
- Wear comfortable shoes, since the ground is rocky.
- If possible, combine driving one way and taking the boat the other (or vice versa) for the full experience.
- Don’t forget water and sunscreen—there’s little shade in this natural setting!
So… take note! Sa Calobra is not just a beach, it’s a complete experience. The road, the sea, the mountains, and the Torrent de Pareis make this corner one of the most breathtaking places in Mallorca. A must-visit if you want to take home an unforgettable memory of the island.
