With the aim of preserving and protecting the natural environment of Cala d’Or, the Palma Aquarium Foundation, the CaixaBank Foundation, Estel de Llevant and MarSenses Hotels & Homes have joined forces in an unprecedented initiative to clean the Cala Ferrera torrent of waste. This solidarity action, carried out on 11 May, managed to collect 357 kg of waste, including metals, plastics and other materials. For this work, they had the collaboration of the Ajuntament de Felanitx, which provided containers for the correct disposal of the waste.
This clean-up activity, part of the Social Month organised by CaixaBank, not only sought to eliminate existing plastic waste, but also to raise awareness in the community about the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling plastic. In addition, sustainable art is promoted through the reuse of plastics in good condition, which will be given to local artists to give them a second creative life.
MarSenses Hotels & Homes has extended the invitation to the guests of its MarSenses Ferrera Blanca Hotel Family and MarSenses Ferrera Blanca Hotel Adults-Only, located in the surroundings of Cala Ferrera, promoting the participation of visitors in the preservation of the environment during their stay on the island.
For its part, the Estel de Llevant association was in charge of the preliminary work of preparing the land, carrying out intensive clearing and cleaning work in the Cala Ferrera torrent in the days prior to the event.
The solidarity action in Cala Ferrera not only represents an effort to clean up a natural space, but also a call to action for people, companies and public entities at a local and international level to face the global challenge of plastic pollution.
