Hello SenSer@s,
As we mentioned in previous posts, one of the ideas behind this blog was to offer you information on what to do on the island when you’re on holiday.
One of the main attractions these weeks is the Alcúdia Jazz Festival, which this very Friday will feature the presence of the violin virtuoso Ara Malikian.
Born in Beirut in 1968 and of Armenian descent, he is one of the most internationally recognized violinists. His career began in the midst of the Lebanese Civil War, where he even practiced in bomb shelters. His talent was such that at the age of 14 he received a scholarship from the German government to study at the prestigious Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover, becoming its youngest admitted student. Later, he continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
His style, shaped by Armenian roots, Middle Eastern music, flamenco, tango, jazz, and European classical traditions, is characterized by a vibrant, emotional, and deeply expressive fusion.
“Intruder”: a deeply personal tour
His new production, Intruder, is much more than a show; it is an open letter about his experience as a cultural “intruder”: not fully Lebanese, Armenian, or European. This feeling of not fitting in is transformed into music—a search for place and belonging that finds its home in art itself.
This Friday at Alcúdia Jazz Festival
This Friday, September 12, Ara Malikian will be part of the lineup of the XXV Alcúdia Jazz Festival. He will take the stage at the Auditori d’Alcúdia (Plaça de la Porta de Mallorca, 3) at 9:00 p.m. to present Intruder as part of this prestigious musical event.
