Yes indeed!. Today we are going on an excursion to one of the most beautiful and charming towns in Mallorca: Sóller. And we are doing so on one of the oldest, most mysterious and historic ways of transportation on the island. The train (and tram) that connects Palma and Sóller. Have you got everything ready? Come on, welcome to a journey back in time!

Mallorca is a destination that enchants with its natural beauty and cultural richness, and few experiences capture its essence like a trip aboard the historic Tren de Sóller. This wooden railway, inaugurated in 1912, connects the city of Palma with the picturesque village of Sóller, offering an unforgettable journey through mountainous landscapes, tunnels and carob and almond trees.

The Tren de Sóller was born with the purpose of improving communications between Sóller and Palma at a time when the mountains made access difficult. More than a century later, it is still in operation, conserving its original charm with its wooden carriages and vintage aesthetics, making it one of the island’s most beloved attractions.

From the moment the train leaves the station in Palma, the traveller is immersed in a nostalgic atmosphere. The gentle rattle on the tracks, the sound of the whistle and the changing views create a magical atmosphere. As the train moves forward, passengers enjoy panoramic views of the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

One of the most anticipated moments of the route is the stop at the Pujol de’n Banya viewpoint, where travellers can admire a breathtaking view of the valley of Sóller and take unforgettable photographs. Shortly after, the train arrives at its final destination, the charming village of Sóller, known for its impressive square, modernist church and streets lined with cafés and shops selling local products.

Not only do we recommend that you wander through the streets of Sóller (get lost in ios magic, have a coffee/drink/snack), but also take the tram to Puerto de Sóller, where the views, the beach and the restaurants in the area will make for an unforgettable day out. So enjoy, pack your things and take note of the following tips – you won’t want to miss it!

Tips for maximum enjoyment:

Arrive early: Tickets can sell out, especially in high season. Another option is to buy tickets through their website 😊 .

Choose a good seat: The best views are usually enjoyed from window seats on the right-hand side of the train on the outward journey.

Explore Sóller and its bay: After the train journey, a historic tram connects the town with the Port of Sóller, an ideal destination to enjoy the gastronomy and the sea breeze.

Camera in hand: Every corner of the route is worthy of being photographed. Whether  that is for Instagram or to make a whole “photobook” and show them to family and friends (even on a Powerpoint presentation is an option) 🙂 (Yes, some of us still remember what Power Point is )

Travelling on the Tren de Sóller is not just a journey; it is an experience that transports the traveller to another era, fusing history, nature and culture in a single journey.

Whether for tourists or residents, this train is a jewel that continues to enchant generation after generation – a must on any visit to Mallorca!

All aboard!
