It’s official: summer is here. Not just because this past Saturday, June 21st, marked the official start of the hottest season, but because high temperatures have already settled in—and it looks like they’re here to stay.

In the coming days, the island of Mallorca will reach temperatures that, in many cases, may exceed 35°C (95°F). And let’s not forget the humidity on the island, which will make it feel even hotter. Oof!

Here are some recommendations based on common sense (which, ironically, isn’t that common) that are worth repeating. Every summer, these extreme temperatures catch someone off guard—and we want to prevent that. So, take care of yourself!

Stay hydrated frequently. This is the most important one. Even if you’re not thirsty, drink water. Avoid drinks with alcohol, sugar, or caffeine, as they promote dehydration—and that’s exactly what we don’t want.

Avoid the hottest hours of the day. They might be the times you most want to hit the beach, but they’re also the most dangerous. Not only because of the heat but because of the intensity of the sun, which can cause sunburn. So, avoid direct exposure between 12 PM and 5 PM.

Don’t forget your sunscreen. Make sure your sunblock has at least SPF 30. And don’t just apply it to your face—cover your whole body with care. We don’t want you getting burned!

Limit outdoor physical activity. Many people take advantage of the nice weather to show some skin and wear lighter clothing, which is great. But we ask for caution. There’s a difference between exercising and heading out during peak heat hours to sweat like there’s no tomorrow. So, first things first: be smart, stay hydrated (remember tip #1).

Eat light and avoid heavy meals. Let’s be real: summer and heat call for more fruits and veggies. A good gazpacho and a fresh plate of watermelon or melon are always a great idea. Besides being delicious, they provide vitamins, refreshment, and hydration. A total win-win.

If you’re using air conditioning at home or in the office, make sure you follow the recommended environmental guidelines. Important! Don’t overdo it with the temperature, nobody wants to end up getting sick either. 😊

So, enjoy summer the way you deserve! But do it wisely. Always.
Alright?
And take a dip—or two, or three, or four—for us!
