As someone who has never travelled to Mallorca, a lot of things might come to mind as of things to do, what to visit, what to eat, where to go… It can get a bit overwhelming at times. We know it! That’s why we’ve tried to get a couple of things pointed out so anyone looking forward to coming into the island can follow and get the best of this first time.

Mallorca, as we know, is a very popular destination, not just among the Spaniards but also international travelers. So, basing this blog on that, here are things you can do without having to live the extreme total touristy experience.

So, grab a pen, pencil or a tablet (depending on how technologically challenged you are (or aren’t)) and let’s get to it.

Let’s play a game. Let’s imagine that you are travelling to Mallorca (well, you actually are) but also you are visiting a friend of yours and you asked them (we are inclusive here and they’ve asked us to be inclusive and that we use they/their pronouns) to have a sort of local experience but not missing any of the important things someone ought to visit.

Pick up at the airport: well, if they are good friends, they would pick you up from the airport, and if that is with an ensaïmada in hand, way better. That would be “getting into the local Majorcan life” from the very beginning.

Let’s get home (or wherever you are staying) and freshen up a little. Once you are ready for the action -it is important to not forget the towel and the swimsuit (and the sunscreen-, let’s hit the road and go straight to the beach. One of the most amazing ones, and popular but beautiful ones, is Es Trenc, near Colonia de Sant Jordi. Some have already considered the Caribbean Mallorca, so it is totally worth it.

Platja d’Es Trenc.

Can it get a bit crowded depending on the day you are going? It definitely can, but it is a good idea (probably better during the weekdays, as during the weekends locals and tourists take over 😊), as it offers amazing water, views and postcard-like pictures so you can always remember that moment.

After the whole day there, or at least a few hours, it is time to hit the road and experience some sort of beach club or some nice terrace where to enjoy some food and drinks -in case you did not eat as you were busy catching up with your friend or got lost in time and having amazing swims-.

A good idea, as it would give you the chance to taste the local flavors and the amazing gastronomy that Mallorca can offer, treat yourself to some typical dishes from here, such as Tumbet, Frito Mallorquín and Arros Brut (hot rice sort of soup, even though temperatures are high, it is worth it)… And if you drink alcohol, down it all with a good wine and probably a “digestive” drink after the meal. On the other hand, if you should not drink, try the local soft drinks as they are very refreshing and totally tasty…

Stay tuned for the second part of the First Timer Tour 😊

Lots of love!
